mf3 -2024-03-19

A leather sofa can add a touch of class and elegance to any living room. Although leather comes in limited shade offerings, it’s sleek and sophisticated-looking nature allows it to stay contemporary through all styles and seasons. With the right care, your leather sofa can last for generations. Here are some tips on how to care for your leather sofa:

  1. Suck it out.
Start your cleaning routine by removing dust and particles on the surface of your leather sofa with a vacuum cleaner. To avoid scratching your furniture, use the soft brush attachment while you go about it.
  2. Wipe with mild detergent.
Avoid using harsh detergents to clean your sofa as this might damage the surface of the leather. Dip a clean piece of cloth in some mild detergent and gently wipe the entire sofa. You may use detergents that are designed for washing delicate fabric if you do not have commercial leather cleaner.
  3. Clean spills immediately.
Unfortunately, spills are unavoidable especially if you have young children around the house. Use a dry cloth to blot the spills immediately and let it air-dry. Do not wipe as this will cause the moisture to spread out.
  4. Keep away from sunlight.
Protect your sofa from being exposed to direct sunlight as it can cause the leather to age and dry up, causing it to crack and discolor. Always place your sofa leather at least two feet away from excessive heat sources.
  5. Remove stains appropriately.
For leather, there are different methods to remove different kind of stains. To get rid of permanent ink stain, dip a cotton swab in some Isopropyl alcohol and gently rub over the stain. To remove grease stains, begin by blotting up as much grease as possible from the surface of the leather with a dry cloth. Sprinkle some talcum or corn starch on the affected area and let it settle for a while. Then, brush it off using a soft-bristled brush. You may need to repeat the process a few times.
  6. Weekly maintenance.
Clean your leather at least once a week. Simply wipe your sofa with a dry microfiber cloth.
  7. Keep away from pets.
If possible, keep your pets off the upholstery as leather is prone to irreparable damage from scratching and chewing.
  8. Be careful of sharp objects.

5 Ways to Take Care of Your Wooden Dining Table
mf3 -2024-03-19

There are so many good ways of taking care of wooden furniture at home. But when it comes to your dining table, most home owners have ignored the simplest ways of taking care of it.

  1. DUST OFTEN!
Small particles of dust may seem harmless, but enough build-up can eventually scratch the surface of the wood’s finish. Make dusting a weekly task or more frequent if necessary using a soft, lint-free cloth.
  2. CLEAN & REPAIR!
To remove grime or grease, clean gently with a non-alkaline soap and water solution. Dry the wood immediately with a soft, dry cloth to avoid water damage. For watermark rings from sweating glasses, chances are it is in the wax, not the wood. Rubbing the area with mayonnaise should get the marks right out. (Yes, you heard us right! Mayonnaise works well!)For burn marks, use an extra-fine, dry steel-wool soap pad to rub gently along the grain over the burned area to remove it. Cover ugly scratches with a furniture touch-up marker or crayon in a matching wood shade.
  3. PLACEMENT MATTERS!
Extreme room temperature and humidity can wreak havoc on wooden dining tables. Keep them away from incoming direct sunlight and heat sources such as radiators. The temperature swings could damage the wood with warping or splitting.
  4. SURFACE PROTECTION!
Acquire a custom-fit glass piece to be placed on top of the wooden dining table to protect the surface. This will not only give your dining table a nice touch but it also protects the wooden surface as well.Alternatively, you can use linen or cotton tablecloths & placemats. Avoid vinyl and plastic materials as they can damage the wooden finishes on your dining table or leave residues behind that build up on the surface. Over time, these materials can make the surface of your dining table sticky and cause discoloration.
  5. MAKE IT SHINE!
Just like your car, wooden furnitures deserve a nice coat of wax to make them shiny. Once or twice a year, polish the surface of your dining table with a hard, carnauba wax. Use two soft, lint-free cloths. One to apply the wax and another to polish. This does not only make the wooden surface shinier but it will be much easier to wipe the dust or other residues off!
Bathroom Floor Tile. Which Is Best for You?
mf3 -2024-03-19
  1. TILE
Offers a clean and classic look that is also extremely durable, waterproof, and stain-resistant. While ceramic tile is one of the most popular flooring options for bathroom, it can also be rather slippery to the feet. To avoid slip-and-fall accidents in the bathroom, best to choose a tile that is certified slip-resistant.
  2. VINYL
Vinyl is easy to clean, waterproof, and stain-proof and also known as one of the most budget-friendly floorings available. While it is possible for water to seep under, choosing a top-quality sheet vinyl will help mitigate the risk by reducing the seams.
  3. WOOD
If a warm and classic look is what you are looking for, hardwood floors should be your choice of bathroom flooring. While engineered wood resists humidity better than solid wood and is a smart choice in a damp space, when considering wood in general, know that water doesn’t play well with these materials. Just one big water-line leak can cause serious and expensive damage to your flooring.
  4. CORK
While cork is resistant to mold and mildew and is water resistant, which makes it perfect for a bathroom, it is also environmental friendly. A polyurethane topcoat will protect the floors from minor spills therefore, it is important that the floor be resealed every few years to protect against moisture. Glue-down tiles, which come finished or unfinished, are perfect for above-grade applications, but click-in-place planks should be used for below-grade bathrooms. To prevent water seeping between gaps, it’s best to choose unfinished cork and finish the floor on-site.
  5. BAMBOO
Bamboo is eco-friendly and also easy on the budget, costing as little as half the price of hardwood floors. In the bathroom, the smart choice is engineered bamboo rather than solid bamboo because the planks are extremely durable and ideal for wet environments. They are also simple to install and damaged pieces can be replaced easily.
Benefits of having a built-in wardrobe in your house
mf3 -2024-03-19

When people build a new home or renovate their current home, they tend to ignore the opportunity of a walkin wardrobe. Instead, they fixate on the size of the bathrooms and the ensuite and don’t give a second thought to the size of their wardrobes. This is the perfect time to consider the type of wardrobe you will need and what your storage needs are. Walk-in wardrobes are ideal for use as a dressing room, placing a chest of drawers and mirror. Depending on the size of the walk-in wardrobe you may also wish to have a chair to sit while putting on your shoes. Walk-in wardrobes are so versatile when compared to the confinements of a built in wardrobe. The walkin wardrobe has a lot of wall space that can be shelved floor to ceiling.

Obviously, walk in wardrobes do take up more space than a regular wardrobe, but in reality, the size of your wardrobe is just as important as the size of your ensuite.

If we think of your ensuite for a moment, you don’t want a teeny, tiny shower cubicle where you bang your elbows on the glass shower screens and you can’t bend over without hitting the wall. This would drive you nuts every morning when you are getting ready to go to work.

Well, the same applies to your walkin wardrobe, because you don’t want all of your clothes and accessories jammed in so tight that everything is creased and you can’t find anything anyway. So let’s look at 5 benefits of installing walk in wardrobes in your home:

  1. Lots of wardrobe hanging room: Just think of all the room you will have to hang your clothes in your new walk in wardrobes. You will not only be able to see everything quire easily in your walk-in wardrobe, but because you have so much wardrobe hanging space, they won’t all be jammed in together and they won’t become creased.
  2. Shoes neatly on display: Instead of a jumble of shoes on the wardrobe floor, all of your shoes will be neatly on display, so you can quickly select the right pair for your outfit in the morning in your walkin wardrobe.
  3. Shelves for folding items: No longer will you have to cram all of your winter clothes and jumpers into drawers, because with customised walk in wardrobesyou will have lots of wardrobe space to store all of your bulky items.
  4. Display cases for jewellery: Imagine having a glass topped display case inside your wardrobe for your watches, necklaces, earrings and rings. This will make it so easy to pick your jewellery to match your outfit every day and it will keep everything safe and untangled in a walk-in wardrobe.
  5. Your own dressing room: The walk-in wardrobe doubles as a dressing room. It is such an indulgence to have your very own dressing room, where everything is in one place and you can relax while you are dressing. You can even have a chair and side table in your walk in wardrobes, as well as electrical points and a lovely floor to ceiling mirror.

So if you are thinking about building your own home or renovating your current home, give some serious thought to including walk in wardrobes into your plans. We all deserve a little slice of  indulgence every now and again!  The walk-in wardrobe is wardrobe heaven.
